Working Together @ St Helens

I thoroughly enjoy working at St Helens Go Active, where I am part of a dedicated and passionate team that shares a commitment to promoting health and wellbeing within our community.  My role offers a diverse range of responsibilities and projects, ensuring that every day presents new challenges and opportunities for growth. I'm grateful for the support and encouragement I've received from my site team and colleagues alike, which has enabled me to develop both personally and professionally.   The organisation has invested in my ongoing development, providing access to training and study opportunities that have allowed me to enhance my skills and expertise. Overall, I find St Helens Go Active to be an exceptional place to work, with a positive and inclusive culture that fosters collaboration, innovation and employee wellbeing. I have worked at Go Active, Newton-Le-Willows Health & Fitness for 4 years. Starting as a Leisure Apprentice in 2021, I have now progressed to a permanent Fitness Instructor.  I have completed  qualifications which have developed my skills and knowledge including my Level 3 Personal Training qualification, Swimming Instructor Level 1 & 2, & National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. I am currently completing my Level 3 GP Referral qualification. I love being able to bring new ideas to the fitness industry, have a great working relationship with the customers, and I have a great team around me.  There are some great benefits with the role, my favourite one includes flexible access to all facilities which means I can train before and after work. 

I have worked in the service for nearly thirty years. I began my career as a Care Assistant/Support Worker, progressing to working as a Team Leader then onto an Assistant Manager post. I also spent a period of time working in the Social Work team as a Senior Social Worker. Throughout my career I have worked with adults with learning disabilities & complex needs.  Working for St Helens Council has offered me not only career progression, but it has also given me invaluable knowledge, skills, experience and training.  I thoroughly enjoy my job managing the service, ensuring the staff who are supporting service users to live in their own homes provide this in a manner that is safe, caring, responsive, effective and well-led. I champion staff having career progression and ensure they are also equipped with the right knowledge, skills and training to support our Service and achieve their full potential.      

I have worked at St Helens Council for the last 13 years. Starting as an apprentice initially I have worked through a variety of roles, most recently as an Area Manager for the School Traded Services. We provide a vital service across the borough which I am proud of. One of the main parts of the role is the variety, no day is ever the same and I work with a fantastic team. Working for the council allows me to give back to the area I was born in which is incredibly rewarding

St Helens Council is a great place to work. I have a supportive team and management. Excellent and flexible working hours with the possibility of working from home is very important for me as a parent and helps with my work – life balance. I feel valued and part of the team and wider organisation
