Pound Help shape the future of Newton-le-Willows through a £20 million investment

Are you passionate about Newton-le-Willows and its future? Do you live and/or work in the area? If so, this is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping how £20million of funding is invested in our community.

We are seeking a committed, forward-thinking individuals to join the Newton-le-Willows Neighbourhood Board from the below specialisms - a voluntary role with a powerful impact.

  • 1 representative from a 'Health and Wellbeing' background.
  • 1 representative from a 'Education and Opportunity' background.

Responsibility of Board

The objective of the Board is to provide strategic leadership, oversight and decision-making. The Board focuses on strategic outcomes and assurance, not operational delivery.

The objectives of the Board are to:

  • Set the strategic direction and identify the issues and priorities to focus on in the Regeneration Plan, agreeing how the community will be actively engaged.
  • Work with the Council to develop the Regeneration Plan and set out how partner agencies will use their knowledge, powers, assets and new funding to deliver for the community.
  • Identify and explore opportunities to utilise specific powers (such as neighbourhood planning) to drive forward the Regeneration Plan.
  • Identify and explore opportunities to bring in additional philanthropic or private investment to support the Regeneration Plan.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of projects in the Regeneration Plan.

Becoming a Board Member

To reflect the town we serve, the Neighbourhood Board needs a broad mix of skills, experience and perspectives. We’re looking for people who can actively contribute to delivering the Regeneration Plan and help shape a successful future for Newton‑le‑Willows.

We are recruiting two new Board Members:

  • One representative with an Education and Opportunity background
  • One representative with a Health and Wellbeing background

You don’t need previous Board experience, but you should bring relevant skills, a strong commitment to Newton‑le‑Willows, and lived or professional experience in the town. Applicants must live and/or work in Newton‑le‑Willows.

When selecting new members, the Board will consider:

  • Clear passion and commitment to the town’s future
  • A track record of contributing time or expertise to local social or economic life
  • Willingness to work constructively with the Board and the Local Authority, following the Terms of Reference and Code of Conduct
  • Credibility and respect within the community
  • Ability to meet the time commitments and attend meetings regularly
  • No current political position
  • Relevant expertise in Education and Opportunity or Health and Wellbeing, depending on the role, and be actively engaged within the investment theme applied for

The Chair may also consider exceptional candidates whose skills would further strengthen the Board.

This is your chance to influence meaningful projects to address deprivation within Newton-le-Willows - from community spaces and regeneration initiatives to local infrastructure improvements within the investment themes of: regeneration, high streets and heritage, education and opportunity, health and wellbeing and cohesion.

Please clearly outline which position you wish to apply for within your covering letter, and outline the below:

  • Why you feel your experience is aligned with becoming a Newton-le-Willows Neighbourhood Board Member, relating to the specialist position you are applying for and any previous experience of managing Capital and Revenue budgets.
  • Outline the skillset you believe you will bring to the Newton-le-Willows Neighbourhood Board.
